MUNCHSTER BITES: Taco Vengo

Taco Vengo is a quaint restaurant located along East Capitol Drive behind Longanissa Sopresa fronting D’ Ace Plaza. You won’t even notice that its there, the location is an open secret to those who frequent Kapitolyo. I highly recommend couples who’d like to stay under the radar to dine here as the restaurant exudes an exclusive and hidden appeal. It’s like saying, relax you won’t get seen here.

The price is above average, here’s what we ordered:

Nachos: Can be shared by two people. I loved that there’s an egg. Its my first time to see nachos topped with egg on it. You gotta love the gooey cheese!

Chicken Tacos: My favorite! A bit expensive for the amount of serving but flavorful and still worth every peso. I think we got this for free.

Pork Cheek (Sisig) Tacos: Not a fan of sisig so I'd probably pass on this one on my next visit.

Steak Burrito: Can be split into three. This was heavenly! The steak was cooked medium rare, I would normally feel squeamish after seeing raw portions of meat but it’s a good thing that it was wrapped with veggies.

Chuwaffle: Beautiful concoction! I love how the melted salted caramel blended with the mantecado or was that vanilla ice cream over the hot churro waffle. This can be shared by three persons but if you have a sweet tooth you can easily finish one plate.

Bite Cost: P100 - P300
Munch worthy: Yes. Great for intimate dinners.
Walker repeat: Yes.

MUNCHSTER BITES: Crepeman Kapitolyo

NOSTALGIA AT CREPEMAN KAPITOLYO

I intended to go to a learning function but was unfortunately too late to make it. Instead of heading to Cha Dao I ended up at Crepeman CafĂ©. Luckily they have an ongoing promo, half off coffee based drinks when you purchase any crepe until July 31, 2015. I’ve known Crepeman since college; the owner was the one serving in the cafeteria. It’s great that they were able to expand and put up stores.

I made a big mistake of not eating my choco crepe immediately as the crepe got hard and brittle. The caramel macchiato is heaven! Regular price is P105 and I only paid P52.50 because of the promo.

Bite Cost: From P50 – P200
Munch worthy: Yes. I will try savory crepes on my next visit. Eat it while it’s hot.
Walker repeat: Yes. A quiet place with good wifi.

MUNCHSTER BITES: Longganisa Sorpresa

Jai surprised me one morning when he planned a breakfast date to celebrate our monthsary last January. We decided to try Longganisa Sorpresa, one of the new restaurants in Kapitolyo, Pasig City.

Longganisa Sorpresa offers a variety of Longanissa from different provinces in the Philippines. I never knew I would have a hard time choosing what longganisa to eat plus what vinegar to partner it with.

We ordered their set breakfast meal for only P99. Your choice of longganisa served with garlic rice and iced tea. I ordered their Cabanatuan Longganissa (maasim). I loved it! I've always been a fan of sour foods. Its best with Sukang Iloko.
Jai ordered their Cagayan De Oro longganissa which was sweet. I didn't really like it that much. He said it tasted okay but was not really worthy of a repeat. Well, Jai's not really a breakfast person.

Jai thinks that its a bit pricey for P99.00 but I think that its already reasonably priced because it came with a glass of iced tea already.

In my opinion, Kapitolyo is now turning into a foodie paradise, lots of varieties and hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Its great that my bf lives in the area. :D

So save time and money and the best longganisa of your choice from different longganisa capitals without the leaving metro manila.

Total Food Cost: P207.90 (P99/meal x2 + 5% service charge)

MUNCH MONSTER raid: Mad Mark's Sandwich and Frozen Desserts

Today is FRI-DATE! Well...not really, Jai and I didn't plan on anything special because we were both preoccupied with things to do plus he has football training too (boo!). Anyway, I was feeling hungry that afternoon and I suggested that we try Mad Mark's Sandwiches and Frozen Desserts. We availed a voucher prior from Cash Cash Pinoy, P180.00 for P300 worth of food from Mad Mark's - we got 2 vouchers for P360.00 only (good deal right?).

freshness guarantee wall

Mad Mark's is one of the new hole-in-the-wall restaurants in Kapitolyo, Pasig City. They offer man sandwiches such as the Lumberjack (certified Angus Beef baby!) and Mariner (fish fillet w/mariner sauce), buffalo wings, rice meals and frozen desserts. We arrived around 5:30 p.m. ready for our early dinner pig-out. Jai and I ordered 1 whole Lumberjack Sandwich (split in two) with  sides of Cajun and Herb Parmesan Fries, Zing wings (4 pcs.) and a scoop of Madagascar Walnut Fudge for me and Chocolate on Chocolate for Jai.

The Verdict:
LUMBERJACK

I had the Lumberjack with Herb Parmesan Fries while  Jai had his with Cajun Fries. We loved the Herb Parmesan Fries but we think it would be better if they served it with garlic mayo or sour cream dip. The Cajun fries was ordinary tasting, I think it needed a bit more salt & pepper to taste. The Angus Beef was juicy  and blended well with the mushrooms although we should have added mozzarella cheese. Overall it was ok but I wouldn't pay P250.00 for this (sandwich alone).

HOMEMADE ICE CREAM
As you can see in the photo on the right I was almost done eating my ice cream when I realized that I forgot to take a photo. It looked so good when it was served that I had to eat it right away. I don't have a photo of Jai's ice cream, he finished his ice cream first.
Madagascar Walnut Fudge: the name doesn't give it enough justice, it must be named "Best Madagascar Walnut Fudge that makes you wanna do the I love to move it, move it dance". I love it so much that I look forward to eating this again. Chocolate on Chocolate: Jai's comment,"chocolate na chocolate" (so obvious eh?). I tasted his ice cream, it was like eating frozen chocolait, yummy too but I liked mine better.

ZING WINGS
smoky zing wings
4 pcs. @ P170.00

This was Jai's favorite! He liked it  so much that he even said that he liked Mad Mark's Buffalo Wings better than Sunshine Buckets, Charlies and Buffalo Wings & Things. I think the spiciness of the wings was just right and not overpowering the taste of the chicken. Two thumbs up for zing wings!

Food Bill:
Lumberjack (whole): P250.00
Add-on sides: +P30.00 Cajun Fries, +P50.00 Herb Parmesan Fries
Homemade Ice Cream P68.00/scoop
Zing Wings: P170.00/4 pieces
Total: P636.00 - our total shell-out P396.00 (thanks to our CCP voucher)

Bite Cost: P150.00-P200.00/meal
Munch worthy: Yes
Walker Repeat: will go back for the
homemade ice cream, herb parmesan fries and zing wings

MUNCH MONSTER raid: Skew-U Skews & Sizzlers

photo from their facebook account
Another food spot in the infamous Barrio Kapitolyo in Pasig City (my favorite place for food trip). From its name Skew-U, they serve skewered meat such as angus kebab, stewed pork skewer and chicken kebab. Other food items can be seen on their menu posted below. Their best seller is the Angus Kebab served with biriani rice- a must try!

I learned about SkewU through facebook, a schoolmate of mine from Miriam College Isa Sevilla posted photos of the soft opening on her wall or maybe a friend tagged her- hmmm…anyway as a curious foodie, I had to see the place. After work, I called up my boyfriend (who conveniently lives in Kapitolyo) to see the place, this was Tuesday. We walked going there (very accessible if you live in Kapitolyo), we browsed through the menu and although was practically drooling my boyfriend and I had to leave because of his football game and we didn’t have time to eat. So my cravings were put on hold. Boo!

So the next day (Wednesday) he made it up to me by taking me to Skew-U. I ordered the USDA Tapa and my boyfriend tried the Angus Kebab, too bad we weren’t able to bring a camera, the food looked well prepared. Instead I got these photos from their facebook account.

The Angus Kebab was cooked just right (meat-easy to chew) and the sauce blended well with the meat, as for the USDA Tapa I love its salty-sweetness mixed with the curry like taste of the biriani rice (a little biased here cause I love curry) with fried egg on top plus the sauce that complemented the whole dish. Jaipot and I were so satisfied with our order that we want to go back and try other food items such as China Town (which is the liempo, I think…) and Salpicao.

The place can accommodate 20-30 people inside (the non-smoking area) and 20 in the smoking area. The restaurant is equipped with air-conditioning, it was so hot inside when we arrived but it was a relief that they turned on the aircon- whew, there’s also a flatscreen tv to keep the customers busy while waiting for their food, takes about 10-15 minutes to serve. I think they can improve on their menu/brochure to make it look more inviting.

If you’re looking for a place to chill with you’re friends and drink a little booze, Skew-U is a good place. Plus, beer is less expensive compared to other restos that charges 4x the price.

So Skew-U if you don’t try this.
Bite Cost: 89 to 170 php
